Money Matters

Travel requires money – yes ….but not a money tree. It’s not as expensive as you first think …

As we travel we will update this page showing our average daily cost per country. This will show you that travel isn’t always as expensive as you many first think and that it is possible to do it without being rich or winning the lottery!

The average daily cost below for each country is taken from our daily budget records of all expenses - including visa’s, overland travel costs (bus, train & mini-van tickets) and all food, entertainment, entry fees etc. Ever dollar spent is included in the daily average below.

The only cost that is not included into the daily average below is the cost of our initial flight from Melbourne, Australia to Singapore ($572 AUD)

Country          Budgeted Per Day      Actual Daily Cost

Singapore           $100 AUD                      $99.66 AUD

Malaysia             $30 AUD                        $58.59 AUD

Malaysia Note: We have noticed early into this adventure that we have under-budgeted in some areas due to travelling in high season through Asia. Particularly for accommodation. Where we had read that accommodation would cost say 30 RM per night in Malaysia for us was not realistic. In most places it ended up costing us 60RM per night as we were travelling in high season. We stayed in both private rooms and dorm rooms and looked for the cheapest (but still clean and safe) options however prices were constantly higher than anticipated therefore making our initial Malaysia budget unattainable.
